Vegan Friendly Hotels

Nomad Design & Lifestyle Hotel No weekend trip would be complete without a super stylish vegan-friendly hotel and 'Nomad' was exactly that. Their eatery has an elegant bar and restaurant with enticing vegan options. For starters we had a mezze platter with hummus, pickled radish, olives, pita and baba ghanoush, as well as a 'Nomad Green Salad' and 'Hello Spring' bowl laced with asparagus. For mains we chose Bibimbap (just request a vegan version with tofu) and a vibrant purple sweet potato curry which was perfectly spiced and refined. We also spotted plenty of gluten-free options too. Dessert was a heavenly coffee creme brulee and a stunning dish of poached rhubarb with chocolate chia pudding and pomegrante ice-cream, which was a secret 'off-the-menu' dish which they're happy to create on the day on-request.
The next morning we awoke to a gorgeous vegan breakfast plate delivered to our room, loaded with sweet soya yogurt, crunchy granola pot, tropical fruits, fresh breads, mixed jams, nuts and roast veggies. We couldn't have felt more pampered. Their boutique hotel is situated perfectly near the old town and has an edgy modernist vibe with plenty of quirky and artistic features.

For this month's vegan travel guide we visited the beautiful mountain resort Leogang in Austria and stayed for two nights at Holzhotel Forsthofalm, an amazing alpine hotel with organic vegan food, daily fitness and yoga classes, spa, forest hikes, rooftop pool and breath-taking mountain views. The buffet breakfast had a dedicated vegan section including warming oatmeal porridge, freshly baked bread, vegan cheeses, homemade hummus, guacamole and fresh smoothies. Guests also are welcome to enjoy an Italian mezze style afternoon snack of various antipasto. Dinner was a lavish 3-course affair with vegan wines also being available. Menu changes daily. We loved the starters of buckwheat, purple carrots plus a small glass of paprika-coconut soup, main course of organic broccoli, caramelised hazelnuts, quinoa and raspberry puree and for dessert a coconut chia pudding served alongside vegan mango ice-cream. As well as the gourmet cuisine we were very taken with the hotels innovative wooden design and location (1050m in the mountains) which allowed for some magnificent scenery. The ideal hotel to stay for a wellness retreat.

An urban retreat located at the base of the Uetliberg with ayurvedic restaurant'Hide & Seek' offering modern cuisine with a focus on health-conscious nutrition. Their à la carte menu showcases vegan options such as spiced pumpkin curry with crispy tofu, coconut and kichari, baba ghanoush with shiitake mushrooms and miso plus a delicious 'Good Life Salad' with quinoa, beetroot hummus, tofu, avocado, sweet potato, cashews and creamy passion fruit dressing. For dessert opted for an elegantly presented poached apple served alongside vegan popcorn ice-cream, wasabi-avocado, apple wafer and caramelised popcorn.
For breakfast you'll be treated to your choice of chickpea omelettes, vegan waffles drenched in maple syrup, fluffy pancakes as well as self-service buffet. We recommend their fragrant coconut-cardamom porridge and spiced almond shots. The restaurant is open to everyone, not just hotel guests, but if you do get a chance to stay at the hotel you'll be in for a treat. They have spa facilities on-site offering ayurvedic treatments, gym with fitness classes, heated pool, spacious modern rooms with private balconies and beautiful panoramic views.
